3. RAYTHEON INSTRUMENTS

1. What voltage do the instruments require?
2. Will Raytheon instruments talk to my existing equipment?
3. What Transducers do I require?

1. What voltage do the instuments require ?

All Raytheon instuments require a 12 volt dc supply. Instuments may be supplied vie a voltage converter if the vessel does not have a 12 volt supply or alternatively an Autopilot Course computer may be used to supply the whole system. Raytheon Type 300 Course Computers are available in 12 or 24 volt versions and both supply a 12 volt feed suitable for powering a SeaTalk instrument system.

2. Will Raytheon instruments talk to my existing equipment ?

All Raytheon instruments use SeaTalk as their main communications protocol. SeaTalk allows fast data transfer between large numbers of instuments and is compatible with any range of Raytheon or Autohelm produced instruments. If equipment from another manufacturer can provide or use information from a SeaTalk system then a SeaTalk/NMEA interface is available from Raytheon to convert the data. Although NMEA is standard throughout the marine industry and will allow cross platform communications the protocol has been updated over the years and it is always wise to consult a Raytheon dealer to ensure that communication will give the correct results.

3. What Transducers do I require ?

There are four main types of transducer,

1. Speed
2. Depth
3. Wind
4. Compass
and now an active GPS receiver is often classed as the fifth transducer to complete a full instrumentation system. Many instuments come packaged with standard transducers (through hull in the case of speed and depth) but if there are any reasons why standard transducers are not suitable a wide range of options are available to be combined with any instrument control head. Consult a Raytheon dealer for advice on the best choice of transducer for you boat or use this Webster to see the full range available.
