1. Why won't my VHF510 battery hold a charge?
2. What is the weather alert function on Raytheon and Apelco VHF radios?
3. Can I mount my VHF antenna next to the radio?
4. How close can I mount different antennas on my boat?
5. It states in my manual that the antenna cable should be run separated from all other cables, but that is a problem going up the mast.

1. Why won't my VHF510 battery hold a charge?

Gently bend the contact clips in the charger cup to ensure better contact.

2. What is the weather alert function on Raytheon and Apelco VHF radios?

The weather alert function can give you early warning of inclement weather. When bad weather is approaching your area, the National Weather Service will broadcast a special weather alert tone on your local NOAA weather station. When you set the weather alert feature on your VHF, the radio scans the hailing channel (usually channel 16 or 9), one working channel of your choice, and your local weather channel. When the radio detects the weather alert tone, a loud alarm will sound until you push any key. You can then listen to the weather bulletin.

3. Can I mount my VHF antenna next to the radio?

No. The distance between the radio and antenna should be at least 3 feet.

4. How close can I mount different antennas on my boat?

As a rule, transmitting antennas should be separated from receiving antennas as far as possible. Transmitting antennas should be higher than receiving antennas.

5. It states in my manual that the antenna cable should be run separated from all other cables, but that is a problem going up the mast.

Obviously in some instances there is no option, but as long as all possible precautions are met then there will be no problem with interference.
